Night Court 2008 - "Law of the Sea"

Night Court 2008: Law of the Sea was the most successful production in the history of the project.  This year’s version of HBA’s annual all-lawyer musical comedy raised more than $86,000 in charitable proceeds.  The five-show run played to record-breaking crowds with a 30% single-year increase in audience size, made possible by its move to a larger theater.  Setting sail at the Wortham Center for the first time, the group of more than seventy attorneys and judges staged an original tale of pirates and nautical adventure that parodied current events, pop culture, politicians and celebrities, as well as the legal profession.  From the castaways of Gilligan’s Island and the crew of the Love Boat, to the characters from Peter Pan and The Little Mermaid, local attorneys entertained audiences with singing, dancing, sword-fighting, ship battles and a tidal wave of comedy.

Night Court is written by lawyers and performed by lawyers with an orchestra and crew full of lawyers.  Show proceeds benefit the charitable works of the Houston Bar Foundation. Law of the Sea was written and produced by Debra Baker of Connelly · Baker · Wotring LLP and Tim Weltin of Weltin Law Firm, PLLC.  The show was directed by Judy Frow with music direction by Jim Benton.   The next adventure, Night Court 2009: Legal Fairy Tales, runs from June 10 – 13 at the Wortham Center.   Tickets will go on sale April 1, 2009 online at HBA.org.
